Combining AFAOA Databases Using Y-DNA
The Austin Families Association of America (AFAOA) currently maintains approximately 70 progenitor databases. Many of these lines are likely connected, but often the connection is unknown or happened too far in the past for paper records to be used to verify how they are related. This is where Y-DNA testing, specifically FTDNA's Big Y-700 test, can be used to identify closely related families and even determine exactly how they are connected. Below are several examples demonstrating how genetics and genealogy can be used to connect two previously separate progenitor lines.
