Harriet Newell Austin, born 1819 dau. of Samuel
Ward Austin and Mary Mitchell of North Kingstown,
RI, was my gr-gr-great grandmother. In
perusing the Austin website, I have found at
least three other individuals with the exact
same name, born within approximately two decades
of each other in the RI-CT area. I have also
found two or three other women named Harriet
Newell (plus other surname) who married into
the Austin family at later times. Was
there some significance to this given name,
Harriet Newell? Was there some
well-known person who inspired this name in
several daughters? Or, was there some
earlier connection to a Newell family in these
family trees prior to 1800? I have also
noticed Newell used as a male first name among
the Austins, and as a surname at later times
among Austin spouses. So, any clues or
definitive information on these Harriet Newell
Austins of CT and RI?? (Jan 2002)

I am trying to find out about my Family. As
far I can find anything is my grandparents,
John Austin b. 1848 ? in Ohio married Elzia
Jane Smalley b.1856 in Ohio ? I found
this in the 1900 Grandby Twp. Newton Co. Mo.
Soundex. Also found in 1880 census for
Calwood, Callaway, MO John Auston and Eliza
Jane Auston. They have 3 children listed
with them. The ones in Newton Co. have
4 children of latter dates. I do know
that my grandparents had 7 children and my
father was the youngest. I have come
to a brick wall of sorts. I can't seem
to find any earlier ones and am not sure if
the 2 families are one and the same. I
do feel they are, but hunches I guess don't
count. I would like to find out who John's
(my Grandfather) parents were. I am new
at this and have no idea where to go from here
so any help would be very valuable in my search. I
know very little of my father or any of his
family. I also understand he (my father)
had a early marriage in Mo. and 2 children
were born from this marriage. (Nov 2001)

Austin or William Austin who married at Lucinda
Garland abt 1849 possibly in Tennessee. The

Joseph (Franklin Co., Ill). I know these
are the right families from what the family
and some elderly friends in Franklin Co., Ill. But
