Ambrose Austen was born probably near Marden, England. His father was Thomas Austen. Ambrose married Susannah Beard of Rottingdean in Sussex, in 1779; he was 22 and she was 20. They had 9 children, all born in England.
On 6 December 1818 he bought Lot 63 for $11 in Jeromesville, Ohio from a Christian Deardorff. Immigration records show an Ambrose Austen (aged 63) and a Joseph Austen (aged 20) embarking at Liverpool in February 1821 and arriving at Philadelphia on April 7 1821. They then went to Jeromesville, presumably to the land he bought three years earlier in 1818. It seems that Joseph lived with him on the farm and in 1833 took over the management. Ambrose died 29 Jan 1843 in Jeromesville, and is buried there.
