William Austin lived in Franklin County, Virginia in the late 1700's and died in that county before February 4, 1805. He was born around 1740 based on the fact that his son David Austin was recorded on the 1787 Virginia State Census as being above 16 years and under 21 years of age. David Austin is the only child listed in William Austin's will which was signed (by his "X") on April 23, 1799 and probated on February 4, 1805 in Franklin County, Virginia.
David Austin married Nancy Ann ____ at some time before 1766, again, based on the range of birth dates given for their son David. There are many records of land transactions made by William. The first time that Nancy is listed as William's wife on a land transaction was October 1793 when she acknowledged her dowager rights.
This database is an outgrowth of Ruth Marshall Austin's research on her husband Miles Austin's genealogy (also available on this web site). She soon learned that these two Austin families shared Franklin County, Virginia and surrounding counties. Ruth also incorporated research and records from Margaret Hiatt and Shirley Keene, both of Stuart, Virginia, as well as Larry Austin of Castlewood, Virginia.
