William Austin first appears in a land transaction recorded on 5 Jun 1736 in the Virginia Land Office, Patent Book 17, p 68: "William Austin of Hanover Co., VA...for 40 shillings, a tract of 98 acres in Amelia County, VA, on the upper side of Flatt Creek - on both sides of Furgusons Horse-pen branch." William went on to purchase much more land in Amelia County, eventually moving there before 1749. He died in mid 1777 in Craven County, SC.
The kernel of this database was the result of AFAOA genealogist (emeritus) Bonnie Bigolin combining the contributions from 18 researchers to form 114 linked individuals. Bonnie placed the database into the Southern Unplaced file pending further research. During e-mail correspondence with Richard L. Carlan, AFAOA genealogist Liz Austin Carlin recognized that he was a descendant of William, and integrated Richard's family database of 202 individuals with Bonnie's portion. Liz then did more research, eventually adding 320 more people for a total of 636 linked individuals. This latest update includes the data and corrections of Joy Anita Shaw.
