The William Austin of Kent County, MD database was originally established by Glen A Reiff, Mary Jane Miller and David W. Austin. It has since been updated and expanded by Bonnie Bigolin, Hal Steiner, Jr., and Liz Austin Carlin, AFAOA Genealogist. This latest update results from further contributions from many people accessing the database on the Web, DNA evidence, and analysis by Jim Austin of Lompoc, CA.

William Austin (4), born 9 May 1738, St. Luke's Parish, Queen Annes Co., MD is the son of William III and Mary Cleaves. CAUTION: All other information concerning William (4): death, spouses, children..... is still being researched. Foremost among the researchers are two descendants of a William Austin and Elizabeth Green. They are Colonel Hal Steiner (who has researched "William" for 3 decades), and James Alwyn "Jim" Austin of Lompoc, CA, whose research includes early "immigration" records and the information contained in the "Lonesome Bible" of William G. Austin.

Based on this latest research, it has been postulated that William Austin and wife Elizabeth Green, and William Austin and wife Ann Jones are two different individuals, and that neither William is the child of William Austin III and Mary Cleaves. William (born ~1705), the father of the William who married Elizabeth Green, is said to have come to Maryland in the early 1700's and served as an apprentice weaver for his fare. William (born ~1735), husband of Anne, is said to have immigrated into the port of Philadelphia. Please read the notes for the record of William Austin (4).  for much more detail.

DNA research has shown a perfect 25 marker match of some "William Austin of Kent, MD" and some "Samuel Austin of MA" descendants. Other descendants of William & Elizabeth and William & Ann show a strong match (3 differences in 37 markers) to each other, and 5-6 differences to MA Samuel. This indicates that all of these three possibly different William Austins have a common, however remote ancestor back in Ireland.
