With careful work by Betty Shelhamer (Stephen Austin of New York line) and Art Sikes, Jr. (Robert Austin of Rhode Island Compiler), the previously separate Austin database Stephen Austin of New York (numbering 1,107 individuals and 397 families) has been integrated into this Robert Austin database with this update. Contrary to Edith Austin Moore's book on Robert Austin, the Stephen she lists as a son of Pasco Austin is actually better placed as the son of Gideon Austin, son of Pasco, and the New York Stephen listed as Pasco's son.
The database was originally created directly from Edith Austin Moore's 1951 book by Lloyd C. Austin in 1992. Additions have been made over the years by Marian C. Reid, John A. Maybee, and Anna K. Austin. Compiler Sikes has said, "I realize that this database is a work in progress. My goal is to get through the rest of the 1880 Census and add notes for the 5th generation before the end of this summer." Please coordinate with Art Sikes all questions, corrections, etc.
Note that all of the Rhode Island records use the town name as either Kingstown or Kingston (in all of its forms, i.e. North Kingstown) interchangeably. Consequently, no attempt at uniformity is made in this database.
Please note: For privacy reasons, this database follows the criteria for living people. (details.)
