Bartholomew Austin had been shown as a son of William Austin, son of John, Sr., based primarily on a deed dated 2 Sep 1826 where William conveyed 250 acres, located in Ashe County, NC for $250 to a Bartholomew Austin. Given the 1826 time frame, and the fact that Bartholomew's son William was moving on to Georgia at the time, it would seem more likely that this deed documented William selling his land to his father Bartholomew.
David Washington Austin (grandson of Bartholomew and Anna) wrote a long series of "reminiscences" in 1934 which have been reproduced in a number of volumes of "The Southside Virginian" in Norton, VA. In one section, David mentions that he heard his grandmother Anna tell him that Bartholomew was one of 3 brothers who emigrated from England, these being Bartholomew, Andrew and Robert. Many land deals occurring between 1807 and 1840 have been recorded between Robert, Bartholomew and some of Bartholomew's sons. These serve to document their familial inter-relationships. None of these deals appear to involve any of the various members of John Austin, Sr.'s family, however.
What happened to the immigrant Andrew is unknown. He apparently did not stay in the vicinity or perhaps he died early.
