Larkin K. Austin of Illinois
(Was Larkin K. Austin of Tennessee)

Compiler:

This database was originally created by Eual Austin, who continues to research and update it. When he sent in his November 2004 update, he asked if we could change the name of the database to Larkin K. Austin of Illinois. Although Larkin, as well as his possible brother James (see below) were both born in Smith County, Tennessee, they soon moved their families north and west, settling primarily in Wayne County, Illinois.

The link between Larkin K. and James S. is only conjecture. It is based on a 1820 census record for Smith County, Tennessee. This record lists a Sarah Austin b. 1790-1800 (presumably a widow), one female b. 1804-1810, and four males b. 1810-1820. A family tradition of one-time  residence in Smith County, Tennessee, and the given birth dates of Larkin (~1815) and James (~1820) tend to support this conjecture. Further research is required.
