This database on Miles Austin and descendants, was researched by Mrs. Ruth (Marshall) Austin of Danville, VA., for her husband, Elba "Eb" Branscomb Austin. As received by the AFAOA, it was her personal work of love numbering some 5700 individuals. It has been reduced to over 1600 Austin related people for exposure on this web site.
Ruth has done extensive work in research: gathering census documents, cemetery records, and marriage records primarily in the Virginia counties of Pittsylvania, Franklin, Floyd and Campbell. She has located and visited numerous family burying grounds as well as established cemeteries and gives their actual locations in her notes.
There are a number of Austin intermarriages which bear further research. Ruth's database actually has two progenitors, Miles Austin and John Austin whose lines ultimately merge. AFAOA Southern Genealogist Liz Austin Carlin has spent considerable time trying to find a common ancestor, but so far to no avail. Liz did discover another possible son of Miles named Isaac, and his family has been added to the database. Ann Ledford and Scott Schaffer have made recent contributions.
