Ambrose Austen of Jeromesville, OH
Compiler:

Our very good friend, Brian Austen, who does his research in Tasmania, Australia, England, and the United States, sent us this database, which is our first line carrying the alternate surname spelling Austen.  Brian is serving as the compiler for this database, so please send additions and corrections directly to him.

This database starts with immigrant ancestor Ambrose Austen, born 19 Jan 1757, probably near Marden, England; his father may have been Thomas.  He married Susannah Beard of Rottingdean, Sussex in 1779.  After five years living somewhere in Dorset, he had a hop farm at Sevenoaks, then kept sheep at Bulls Cross on Theobald's estate, Middlesex.  On 6 Dec 1818 he bought Lot 63 for $11 in Jeromesville, OH from a Christian Deardorff.  Emigration records show an Ambrose (aged 63) and a Joseph (aged 20) embarking at Liverpool in February 1821 and arriving at Philadelphia on 7 Apr 1821; he then went to Jeromesville, presumably to the land he bought there three years earlier in 1818.  Ambrose died in 1843 and is buried at Jeromesville.

Please note: For privacy reasons, this database follows the criteria for living people. (details.)
